Describe your child’s needs and the school day
Think about the parts of the day that are working and those that are difficult: learning, communication, sensory needs, transitions, attendance, safety and relationships. Specific examples from home and school can make your account clearer.
Compare information, not just labels
Gather reports, school records and details of support tried. Write down what you would like to know about a proposed setting, including how it would respond to your child’s needs and what further information you need. Mainstream or specialist labels alone do not explain whether a particular placement can meet an individual child’s needs.
Prepare your views
We can help you put your own views and questions in a clear order for a meeting or written response. We do not select a school for you, make placement decisions or provide regulated legal representation. For connected help, see EHCP support, Section F support and local authority dispute support.
