Clarify the issue
Write a short summary of what happened, when it happened, who was involved and why it matters to your child. Separate the points you agree on from the points you want clarified. Keep copies of letters, emails, plans and meeting notes in date order.
Prepare a clear communication
We can help you organise the information you provide into a clear chronology, document list or draft communication for you to review. You decide whether to send it. We do not contact the authority as your legal representative, conduct litigation or provide regulated legal advice.
Consider the right next step
Some concerns may be addressed through discussion or a formal process; other matters may have specific routes and deadlines. We can help you identify questions to ask, but cannot determine your legal rights or advise which formal route you should take. Seek advice from an appropriate regulated adviser where you need that assessment. See also annual review support, school placement support and Tribunal preparation.
